Facebook page verification:

Some pages and profiles have been verified by Facebook to let people know that they’re authentic. If you see a blue badge on a page or profile, it means that Facebook confirmed that this is the authentic page or profile for this public figure, Company or brand.

Official pages will be verified & will be given the Blue badge/tick. Unofficial pages will remain unofficial.

This verification process confirms the status of the page once & for all; no one can mislead you from the same name unofficial page again. However, Facebook’s criteria of verification are based on popularity of the pages indicated by the daily visits, a tricky issue indeed as it depends on luck to a certain extent that original profile page might lay behind against an unofficial page using similar name. Unless until the celebrity is really famous one, or brand, celebrity, or famous personality gives some regular time on the page to interact with its followers.

Now it’s hard for fake pages to get verified status as its mandatory for the pages to get authorization from brand, celebrity or public figure prior to use their names.

Automatic Verification:

Facebook Permits only four types of Pages as a Verified Profile Page:

  • Celebrities
  • Journalists
  • Government Officials
  • Famous Brand

Above mentioned categories are included in Facebook’s verified page status, the criteria once again is a popularity of the page determined by daily/weekly traffic on the page.

Categories mentioned above are included in Facebook’s verified page status, the criteria once again is popularity of the page determined by daily/weekly traffic on the page. FB allows the officially verified status to all those pages provided the page can display an official authorization letter from the celebrity or brand, it’s called an automatic verification process.

Tips to keep in mind:

You need to fill up certain details regarding your profile or page. If you feed your comprehensive & updated details than usually Facebook automatically track you to place in a verified category. Some points to be noted:

  • Always link your page or profile to an official website.
  • Fill the ‘About Page’ section with most updated details, with a comprehensive introduction of your business.
  • While filling the details do consider the following aspects for clarity: ‘Key Word’ that describes your business, email address of the business, website name & link, and artifacts, along with other necessary details.

We are in the battle for Internet – Net Neutrality

The internet’s success in fostering innovation, access to knowledge and freedom of speech is in large part due to net neutrality — the idea that internet service providers give their customers equal access to all lawful websites and services on the internet, without giving priority to any website over another. Due to intense lobbying by telecom operators like Airtel and Vodafone, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to allow them to block apps and websites to extort more money from consumers and businesses — an extreme violation of net neutrality.11146266_1420156214965936_9169088276640637700_n

What is Net Neutrality?

Net Neutrality is about:

– No telecom-style licensing of Internet companies (see this and this)

– No gateways (Internet.org and Airtel Zero ), – No speeding up of specific websites (that may or may not pay)

– No “zero rating” or making some sites free over others (and that goes for you too, Wikipedia and twitter).

It’s important for access to knowledge, services and free speech, as well as freedom and ease of doing business online, for this access to be neutral:

– All sites must be equally accessible

– The same access speed at the ISP level for each (independent of telco selection)

– The same data cost for access to each site (per KB/MB).3 Principals of NN

Why is Net Neutrality important for businesses?

  • Net Neutrality is crucial for small business owners, startups and entrepreneurs, who rely on the open Internet to launch their businesses, create a market, advertise their products and services, and distribute products to customers.
  • We need the open Internet to foster job growth, competition and innovation.
  • Net Neutrality lowers the barriers of entry for entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses.
  • It’s because of Net Neutrality that small businesses and entrepreneurs have been able to thrive on the Internet.
  • They use the Internet to reach new customers and showcase their goods, applications and services.
  • No company should be able to interfere with this open marketplace.
  • Without Net Neutrality, the next Google would never get off the ground.

Why is Net Neutrality important for communities of color?

  • The open Internet gives equal opportunities to be heard. But without Net Neutrality, ISPs could block unpopular speech and prevent dissident voices from speaking freely online.
  • And without Net Neutrality, millions of small businesses owned by people of color wouldn’t be able to compete against larger corporations online, which would further deepen the economic inequality in our nation’s most vulnerable communities.

Join us in fighting for net neutrality. Let’s remind TRAI that their job is to protect the rights of consumers, not the profit margins of telcos. Let’s demand access to the free, open internet. Submit a response before the deadline 24 April 2015.
