Facebook page verification:

Some pages and profiles have been verified by Facebook to let people know that they’re authentic. If you see a blue badge on a page or profile, it means that Facebook confirmed that this is the authentic page or profile for this public figure, Company or brand.

Official pages will be verified & will be given the Blue badge/tick. Unofficial pages will remain unofficial.

This verification process confirms the status of the page once & for all; no one can mislead you from the same name unofficial page again. However, Facebook’s criteria of verification are based on popularity of the pages indicated by the daily visits, a tricky issue indeed as it depends on luck to a certain extent that original profile page might lay behind against an unofficial page using similar name. Unless until the celebrity is really famous one, or brand, celebrity, or famous personality gives some regular time on the page to interact with its followers.

Now it’s hard for fake pages to get verified status as its mandatory for the pages to get authorization from brand, celebrity or public figure prior to use their names.

Automatic Verification:

Facebook Permits only four types of Pages as a Verified Profile Page:

  • Celebrities
  • Journalists
  • Government Officials
  • Famous Brand

Above mentioned categories are included in Facebook’s verified page status, the criteria once again is a popularity of the page determined by daily/weekly traffic on the page.

Categories mentioned above are included in Facebook’s verified page status, the criteria once again is popularity of the page determined by daily/weekly traffic on the page. FB allows the officially verified status to all those pages provided the page can display an official authorization letter from the celebrity or brand, it’s called an automatic verification process.

Tips to keep in mind:

You need to fill up certain details regarding your profile or page. If you feed your comprehensive & updated details than usually Facebook automatically track you to place in a verified category. Some points to be noted:

  • Always link your page or profile to an official website.
  • Fill the ‘About Page’ section with most updated details, with a comprehensive introduction of your business.
  • While filling the details do consider the following aspects for clarity: ‘Key Word’ that describes your business, email address of the business, website name & link, and artifacts, along with other necessary details.

Manual Page Verification:

It is 2nd method to verify your Facebook Profile/Page guideline which helps you to acquire a verified status. Now you can apply for verification badge for a page or profile manually.

These are the steps which you need to follow:

  • You need to apply for verification on the prescribed form by visiting the Facebook verification form.
  • Open the form from suggested page or profile for verification. Either it’s your own page or profile, or you represent a celebrity.
  • If you represent any celebrity than with selecting the proposed page and submitting ID proof, authorization letter from the celebrity with the proposed form to Facebook.
  • Currently FB permit celebrities & public figures for the verification process manually, businesses & websites are declined to request manually.
  • Facebook will send a verification email within 48 hours of receiving your request for verification or prescribed form.

We are in the battle for Internet – Net Neutrality

The internet’s success in fostering innovation, access to knowledge and freedom of speech is in large part due to net neutrality — the idea that internet service providers give their customers equal access to all lawful websites and services on the internet, without giving priority to any website over another. Due to intense lobbying by telecom operators like Airtel and Vodafone, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to allow them to block apps and websites to extort more money from consumers and businesses — an extreme violation of net neutrality.11146266_1420156214965936_9169088276640637700_n

What is Net Neutrality?

11121307_767689980004564_8108862977254179761_o

Net Neutrality is about:

– No telecom-style licensing of Internet companies (see this and this)

– No gateways (Internet.org and Airtel Zero ), – No speeding up of specific websites (that may or may not pay)

– No “zero rating” or making some sites free over others (and that goes for you too, Wikipedia and twitter).

It’s important for access to knowledge, services and free speech, as well as freedom and ease of doing business online, for this access to be neutral:

– All sites must be equally accessible

– The same access speed at the ISP level for each (independent of telco selection)

– The same data cost for access to each site (per KB/MB).3 Principals of NN

Why is Net Neutrality important for businesses?

  • Net Neutrality is crucial for small business owners, startups and entrepreneurs, who rely on the open Internet to launch their businesses, create a market, advertise their products and services, and distribute products to customers.
  • We need the open Internet to foster job growth, competition and innovation.
  • Net Neutrality lowers the barriers of entry for entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses.
  • It’s because of Net Neutrality that small businesses and entrepreneurs have been able to thrive on the Internet.
  • They use the Internet to reach new customers and showcase their goods, applications and services.
  • No company should be able to interfere with this open marketplace.
  • Without Net Neutrality, the next Google would never get off the ground.

Why is Net Neutrality important for communities of color?

  • The open Internet gives equal opportunities to be heard. But without Net Neutrality, ISPs could block unpopular speech and prevent dissident voices from speaking freely online.
  • And without Net Neutrality, millions of small businesses owned by people of color wouldn’t be able to compete against larger corporations online, which would further deepen the economic inequality in our nation’s most vulnerable communities.

WhatsApp warning! Your account might get hacked

Hey, I am inviting you to try WhatsApp Calling. It is a dangerous malware.

WARNING: WhatsApp users are being targeted by scammers [WHATSAPP]
WARNING: WhatsApp users are being targeted by scammers
WhatsApp users across the world are being duped by cyber scammers. Fake messages are being sent out inviting WhatsApp fans to test the new calling feature. Once clicked, users are taken to a website where they are asked to take a survey on behalf of the popular messaging service. But the survey actually forces people to download apps and software which may contain dangerous malware. The scam is clever as it asks you to invite friends to try the new calling feature before you can download it.

SCAM: This fake message is trying to dupe WhatsApp users
And with many people desperate to use the new WhatsApp Calling feature it could spread across the platform quickly. WhatsApp Calling is expected to launch later this year and will allow users to phone friends and family over an internet connection for free. Some people claim to have already used the new feature, although WhatsApp haven’t announced an official launch date yet. If you receive a message saying ’Hey, I am inviting you to try WhatsApp Calling click here to activate now’ don’t not click on it. And if you receive a similar message from friends and family it’s likely that their account has been hit by the scam.
